Every time the phone has rung today my heart has jumped expecting it to be the solicitor to let us know our house buyer’s finance has been approved, due today. Well they did phone eventually only to ask for an extension of time for the buyer, as all the banks are all taking a lot longer than usual to approve loans apparently. Solicitor said several contracts had gone the same way lately and thought it may be because it is the end of the financial year. I wonder if it has anything to do with the pending increase in stamp duty. Anyway I’m P’d off, it is so frustrating and it means another open house inspection this coming Saturday, mind you if it doesn’t go through there will plenty more of those as we will have to start the process all over again, (groan). Just thinking about it is stressful so I’ve just had to have a couple of stiff rums to settle my frayed nerves, obviously medicinal purposes only.

28th June 2011
Tomorrow Wednesday 29th is the day we have been nervously waiting for to find out if the house buyer's finance has been approved, funnily enough both Nancy and I are quite calm about it all now but certainly have all our fingers crossed and it's dreadful to will your life away at our age.
Amazingly the weather is being sensational at the present time and that's a blessing seeing it is school hols in Qld this and next week. Our good neighbours are down south skiing this week, they were scheduled to fly to NZ with friends last Saturday but as you would all be aware the flights to NZ were cancelled due to the Chilean volcano ash cloud. Maria spent a lot of time on her computer and came up with an alternative to the Snowy Mountains. Because of the backlog of Australian domestic flights they couldn’t fly south, so I drove them all to Roma Street station where they caught a train to Casino. They changed trains at Casino and on to Sydney where they were to hire a car and drive to Canberra and so on. Poor Kurt, what an ordeal and I’m sure they wouldn’t have bothered had it not been that it was their friends family’s first snow encounter, so you can imagine how disappointed they would have been missing out on the NZ trip. (it turns out there is B all snow in Queenstown at this time anyway). Let’s hope they have a great week down south we will be looking forward to hearing all about it on the week end. (keep in mind Sonia is our Claytons grand daughter).
Well that’s killed a bit of time, who said I was calm
Keep you posted

20th June 2011
Another update
At least we are getting typical Qld winter weather now, so perhaps the El-Nino thingo has finally moved into another cycle at last and maybe next summer won’t be as dramatical as the lat one. Although I must admit summer in South Australia, particularly Victor Harbor (yes the spelling’s correct) was very pleasant.
As mentioned in my previous post we shifted David into the unit while he was away and the same afternoon with our garage being finally empty after so many years, I carried out a quick paint job. Walked out to the wheelie bin, dropped the roller etc into and pronounced that was the last of any house painting for me.
“The House”
As for progress with the house sale, to-date we have had four open house viewings and one private inspection. We now have a contract subject to finance and the deadline for that is 29th June, if that’s Wednesday week. A building and pest inspection was carried out today, you would think I was going in for major brain surgery the way I felt this morning but we had a clean bill of health and all was well and although I knew everything was ok you always fear the worst. Nancy disappeared shopping beforehand and left me to stress out until it was all over, so when she arrived back and inquisitively asked how it all went I just frowned and made a sighing noise. Should have seen the panicky look on her face – that’ll teach her.
Of course while the inspection was on I had the opportunity to meet and chat to the young lady who is potentially buying the house. Louise, who turned out to be a most delightful young Chinese girl, who had attended three of the open house inspections plus the private inspection that she had requested to enable her mother to come from out of town. I get the impression mum and daughter were looking to buy a place, but when we had the house designed and built 24 years ago we didn’t consider traditional Chinese followings and superstitions. Apparently our house doesn’t meet the requirements of Feng Sui, so although mum liked the house very much she doesn’t want a bar of it. Louise on the other hand is quite westernised and loves the place and has decided to go it alone – fingers crossed.
Art
I’ve had a little more time to practice watercolour painting during the last couple of weeks and things are slowly improving. At this week’s lesson I was given the opportunity to do a painting from one of my own photos (actually one of Lisa’s) and selected a street scene in Europe somewhere from a black and white photo-copy. According to our artist tutor street scenes are quite difficult to do in water colour and as I had elected to use the most difficult method to paint it, I was up for a bit of a challenge. Fortunately Maria Field is an extremely good and very encouraging teacher, so with the benefit of her demonstration first I eventually knocked out an acceptable impressionistic street scene together with people. The end result, although no master piece, was pleasing and very encouraging for me.- I think I can see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
That’s all for now
Cheers
