When ‘they’ eventually got up and organised we took
the train into the city to Wynyard Station and even with stopping at every
station it only took 28 minutes for the journey. We followed exit signs that
took us on a journey through a myriad of trading stalls, the bulk being snack
bars and coffee stalls but I reckon you could have purchased just about
anything. Eventually we came out onto street level and had no idea where we
were or what direction we had to go in. Fortunately as I was carrying a small
day backpack at least the poor unsuspecting soul I stopped to query which
direction the ‘Rocks’ were in, would have realised I was a dumb tourist. “That
way” and no smile and it was probably less than a 5 minute walk although we
took our time looking at things as we went. Found a couple of banks we needed
and David managed to get himself lost for a while, thank goodness for mobile
phones.
So we spent several hours wandering around the rocks area
taking photos as you do and enjoying the warm sun that we knew was going to be
short lived.
We made sure we got back to camp by 4.00pm and battened down
in preparation for the forecast storm TV was warning everyone about.
