14th October.
We survived the night, forecast was for rain Tuesday and
Wednesday so we decided to take it easy for a couple of days before attempting
site-seeing sessions. Shopping needed to be done so I tried to get the GPS to
take us to a shopping centre, useless bloody machine. After touring about 30kls
around half of Sydney we eventually found the Macquarie Centre, a huge newly
revamped shopping centre 2.6kls from our caravan. At least we know where it is
now.
Late in the day we had unexpected visitors. Our friends,
Anne and Charlie, whom we travelled half way around Australia with last year
decided to look us up, it was so good to see them and a lovely surprise as we
were intending to catch up with them in a day or so as they live in North Ryde.
They had some stories to tell. Earlier in the year they had taken possession of
a new van and had travelled across the Nullabor to South West WA and back with
only one or two problems that you seem to have with new vans, but a few weeks
ago while returning from a trip to Lightning Ridge, their van suddenly started
to sway around and before they could stop it suddenly flipped over, becoming a
total write off. Fortunately as Charlie never drives fast when towing it didn’t
drag the car over as well which is normally what happens so apart from
suffering from shock at least they weren’t hurt. At this stage no-one has been
able to establish how, what or why it actually happened, but the type of
suspension seems to be in question.
